The Lazarus Community, Scotland

WHO WE ARE?

We are a group of ordinary folks journeying together, seeking stillness and God, space and beauty, connection and friendship, learning what it means to be part of a gathered and dispersed Christian community in the NE Scotland, specifically Morayshire and Western Aberdeenshire. We have a shared concern for local people and lands and are exploring what it means to be an emerging New Monastic Community within the Society of the Holy Trinity in collaboration with local Anglican church structures.

We commit to being welcoming to all, living out the commands of Jesus Christ to
“love the Lord your God with all your heart and ….to love your neighbour as yourself”.

To help us do this we follow a Rhythm of Life, which amongst other things, is a disciplined pattern of searching the scriptures and contemplation using ancient monastic prayer practices within our daily lives. This helps us be grounded in God’s love in order to serve others with care and respect.

As Abbott Christopher Jamison of Worth Abbey puts it
“Learn to receive the love of God, to be able to learn to love yourself, to be able to love others.”

The Lazarus Community is currently supported by our local SEC church grouping in Moray and west Aberdeenshire, see:

Always involving food, this might include short walks, retreats, outings, receiving visitors, or missional serving. A space to 'drop in' whenever and be fed.
